Little Wings is being designed around a two-educator classroom model with intentionally small groups. Our planned classrooms include up to 12 children in Ladybug Landing – Age 2, up to 14 children in Dragonfly Discovery – Age 3, and up to 14 children in Butterfly Academy – Age 4. This creates planned ratios of approximately 1 educator for every 6–7 children—more conservative than Georgia’s minimum licensing ratios for these age groups.

Active supervision is a core part of the Little Wings model. Staffing schedules will be designed to maintain appropriate coverage during classroom activities, meals, rest periods, transitions, outdoor play, early arrival, and late pickup. Educators are expected to remain attentive, positioned to see and hear the children in their care, and aware of each child’s location throughout the day.

Little Wings is being designed to minimize isolated one-on-one situations and promote visibility and accountability. Classroom layouts, staffing practices, and personal-care procedures will be structured so children remain appropriately supervised while their privacy and dignity are protected. Children will never be left unattended.

Yes. Little Wings will follow Georgia DECAL requirements for fingerprint-based background checks and satisfactory background-check determinations for individuals required to have them before they are permitted unsupervised access to children. Our screening process will also include verification of qualifications, references, and suitability for working with young children.

Little Wings will maintain background checks in accordance with current Georgia DECAL requirements and will monitor required renewals as part of our employee compliance process. Under current Georgia requirements, comprehensive background checks generally must be renewed every five years, with additional requirements applying in certain circumstances.

Educators will receive orientation on Little Wings policies, supervision expectations, child protection, emergency procedures, health and safety, and their assigned responsibilities. Required state training will be completed within applicable timeframes, and professional development will continue throughout employment.

Little Wings plans to use security cameras in appropriate classroom and common-care areas as an additional safety and accountability measure. Cameras will never replace active adult supervision. Cameras will not be placed in bathrooms or other areas where children have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Access to recordings will be limited and managed in accordance with center policy and applicable law.

Yes. Little Wings will provide a calm, supervised rest period each day that is appropriate for the age and developmental needs of the children in each classroom. Children will have their own designated rest space, and educators will continue to actively supervise the classroom throughout the rest period.

We understand that not every child sleeps during the day. Children who do not fall asleep will be given an opportunity to rest quietly and, when appropriate, may transition to a calm, quiet activity in accordance with classroom routines and applicable Georgia childcare requirements.

Final nap and rest procedures will be included in our Parent Handbook before enrollment begins.

Families will be asked to provide complete information about their child’s food allergies, dietary restrictions, and any related medical needs during enrollment. This information will be documented and shared with the appropriate staff so meals and snacks can be handled as safely and consistently as possible.

Little Wings will follow individualized precautions based on each child’s needs and any required medical documentation. Staff will also be trained on allergy awareness, preventing cross-contact, recognizing signs of an allergic reaction, and following emergency response procedures when necessary.

Families will be expected to keep the center updated about any changes to their child’s allergies, dietary needs, medications, or physician instructions.

If a child becomes ill during the day, Little Wings will make sure they are kept comfortable, closely supervised, and cared for while we contact the parent or authorized guardian.

Depending on the child’s symptoms, families may be asked to pick up their child promptly so they can rest and receive any needed medical care. Little Wings will follow applicable Georgia childcare health requirements and will maintain clear procedures for illness, exclusion, emergency response, and returning to care.

Our goal is to protect the well-being of the sick child while also helping reduce the spread of illness within the center.

Little Wings will use positive, age-appropriate guidance that helps children learn appropriate behavior, manage emotions, solve problems, and develop healthy social skills.

Our educators will focus on redirection, clear expectations, calm communication, encouragement, and helping children understand the impact of their choices. Physical punishment, humiliation, intimidation, threats, or unnecessarily harsh treatment will not be permitted.

When challenging behavior occurs, families will be kept informed when appropriate, and teachers will work with parents to understand patterns, support the child, and develop consistent strategies between home and school.

Little Wings recognizes that every child develops, learns, and communicates differently. Our educators will work to understand each child’s strengths, needs, routines, and individual learning style so we can provide appropriate support within the classroom.

When a child needs additional help, teachers will use age-appropriate strategies such as visual supports, predictable routines, smaller-group instruction, sensory-friendly options, positive behavior guidance, and additional reassurance or redirection when appropriate.

We believe families are an important part of this process. Parents will be encouraged to share relevant information, evaluations, or support plans that may help us better understand their child. With family permission, Little Wings may also collaborate with outside professionals when appropriate.

Our goal is to create an inclusive environment where children feel supported, respected, and able to participate successfully, while ensuring that any accommodations remain consistent with the center’s staffing capabilities, licensing requirements, and the individual needs of the child.

Children’s privacy, dignity, and safety will be protected during diapering and toileting assistance. Staff will follow written hygiene and supervision procedures, use age-appropriate assistance, and avoid unnecessarily isolated situations. Personal-care areas will be arranged to provide appropriate adult accountability while protecting each child’s privacy.

No. Children do not need to be fully potty trained to attend Little Wings. We understand that toilet learning happens at different ages and at different paces. Our educators will support children through the potty-training process in a patient, positive, and age-appropriate way while working closely with families to provide consistency between home and school.

Accidents are a normal part of early childhood, especially during the potty-training process. If an accident occurs, Little Wings staff will assist the child in a calm, respectful, and age-appropriate manner while protecting the child’s privacy and dignity. Families will be asked to keep a full change of clothes at the center and to replace used items as needed. If additional clothing is needed, we will contact the parent or guardian. We recommend that every child have at least one full change of clothes at the center, including underwear and socks if applicable. Children who are potty training may benefit from having more than one change of clothes available. Our goal is to handle accidents with patience, cleanliness, and care while supporting each child’s growing independence.

Our educators will encourage regular bathroom opportunities, recognize each child’s readiness and progress, and use positive reinforcement as children develop greater independence. Families will be encouraged to share the routines, language, and strategies they are using at home so we can provide a consistent approach. We ask families to provide appropriate changes of clothing while their child is learning.

Yes. Child protection responsibilities are taken seriously at Little Wings. Educators will receive training regarding recognizing possible signs of abuse or neglect, mandated-reporting responsibilities, and the procedures to follow when a concern arises. Reports involving suspected abuse or neglect will be handled in accordance with Georgia law and applicable reporting requirements.

Any statement or behavior suggesting that a child may have experienced harm will be taken seriously. Staff will focus on the child’s immediate safety, document concerns appropriately, notify center leadership, and follow applicable mandated-reporting requirements. Staff will not conduct their own investigation or pressure a child for additional information.

We want families to raise concerns promptly and openly. Parents will have a clear process for communicating concerns to classroom educators and center leadership. Safety-related concerns will receive immediate attention, documentation, and follow-up, and matters requiring regulatory or external reporting will be handled in accordance with applicable requirements.

Little Wings wants families to feel welcome and connected while also maintaining a safe, secure environment for every child. Parents and guardians will be able to visit the center in accordance with our security procedures, classroom routines, and applicable childcare requirements. All visitors will be required to check in before entering child-care areas.

Children will only be released to a parent, guardian, or other individual who has been authorized by the family. Identification may be required when staff do not personally recognize the person picking up the child.

Any changes to a child’s authorized pickup list must be communicated through Little Wings’ approved procedures. A child will never be released to an unauthorized individual.

If applicable, families will also be asked to provide any court orders or custody documents that affect who may have access to or pick up the child.

Little Wings plans to keep families informed about their child’s day, including meals and snacks, rest, toileting or diapering when applicable, activities, learning experiences, and important observations. Families will also be notified of injuries, incidents, health concerns, or other matters requiring their attention.
